Born in the Black Country, Dave Reeves had many jobs, from civil servant to industrial labourer, before becoming an itinerant performance poet and musician and the organiser of Dudley Poetry Centre. He has since worked on community writing and local history projects; founded The Moving Finger, an imprint specialising in developing publications in conjunction with host communities, producing over 40 books of reminiscence and creative texts; and was the first writer to gain Arts Council support for a residency with a doctor working in general practice, Dr Malcolm Rigler in Brierley Hill.

He was Literature Devlopment Officer for Sandwell Libraries; edited and published Raw Edge Magazine, the regional journal of new writing from 1995 to 2008; and is co-founder of the West Midlands-based internet radio station Radio Wildfire.

Since first appearing in Poetry Australia in 1974 he has been published widely and is known for lively performances, mixing spoken word with props and music, given throughout the UK and Europe, He has an MA in Public History gained from Ruskin College Oxford.
