There’s something about forty

In the T-Shirt shop on many occasions we experience strange coincidences. One of these peculiar occurrences happened on Saturday. The team opened the shop at 9am and from about 10.30am to roughly midday they had received three unrelated birthday T-Shirt requests. Each one was a 40th birthday gift and all were for birthday parties that same Saturday night.

The first customer came in with a design on a CD they had downloaded off the internet that being the ‘Now that’s What I Call Music’ CD cover. The customer wanted gold print with a similar design to the CD cover, after spending ten minutes on the computer we’d finished the design work necessary for the custom printed birthday T-Shirt. It simply said ‘Now I’m 40’ on the front and had a very embarrassing childhood bad hair picture on the back.

The second customer wanted a black polo shirt with BIG, bright text on the back saying ‘It took 40 years to look this good’ and on the left hand breast they had the man’s initials. After showing the customers various print colours, in the end they opted for florescent yellow text and a silver forty. The customers drove all the way from Wolverhampton to get printing done so we decided it would be best to print it while they waited to save time and hassle. Text only is easier to prepare and print than designs and logos so they can be printed faster (approximately 10 minutes).

The third customer carried a photo in which we scanned and printed on the front of a white ladies fitted T-Shirt. The words ‘Naughty At Forty’ were printed above and below the picture. The back print had ‘Fabulous 40’ in the style of a football T-Shirt with her nickname ‘Juicy Lucy’ underneath. No details were given as to why Lucy was juicy and we didn’t ask.

All three customers were very happy with the results and as a consequence we were even happier.

In the past five years of business, one off custom birthday T-Shirts have provided us with constant work with at least one coming in every couple of days. We have noticed that the many of our birthday T-Shirts seem to be for the middle aged and the age of forty is the beginning of middle age.

How else can you raise a few laughs with a grumbling middle aged person? A custom printed one off birthday T-Shirt is perfect!
